Review: I Draw Rainbows, The Nerdy Feminist and Wacky Buttons

This is going to be something of a departure from my usual product reviews, but after dropping off the face of the earth last month I wanted to get back into the swing of things.

In terms of what I've been using my creative energy to do, I'm working on a fandom-inspired punk vest for an upcoming convention. As a result I've been trying to coordinate some buttons together for my tote bag and vest. Because of how the timing worked out, I wanted to do a quick review of my button sources.

I Draw Rainbows

I first became aware if I Draw Rainbows at Anime Detour a few years back. A friend of mine got an absolutely adorable print, and I finally placed an order with her this spring. It's all magical girl buttons for my tote bag, and I love all of them.

She has finally added the outer senshi to her Sailor Moon buttons, so I was happy to be able to bring together two of my favorite couples in anime with this one order.

Diana was also kind enough to include a bonus button and a sticker with my order, which was just the icing on the cake. Pluto isn't listed yet on her Etsy shop, and I was delighted to see her button included with my order. She also included a sparkly sticker of Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena, which was also a delight.

The closest thing I've got to a complaint about my order is that she doesn't have Sailor Saturn yet. I will definitely be placing another order whenever she gets around to Sailor Saturn or if she adds more Utena characters. I love these buttons so much.

 The Nerdy Feminist

I found this shop while looking for a button that said "We are not things" and fell in love with the combination of feminism and fandom to be found in her badge selection. I ordered ten buttons that I had chosen from her shop and took a chance with two of her mystery bags. I'm so terribly pleased with my order.

While I expected to love most the buttons I'd actually chosen, it turns out my favorite was one of the buttons from the mystery bag. I didn't know I needed a button that said "Bene Gesserit Witch" until it arrived at my doorstop.

There was a bit of a shipping mishap with my order, but it was no fault of the shop's. It was just a simple mistake made at the post office, and I got updates from the shop owner throughout the process so I never felt as if my order was in anything less than good hands.

And, last but not least...

Wacky Buttons

This was really the sweet spot for my button orders because I was able to design my own buttons for the project. Not, of course, that I'm going to skip the other buttons in my project - I ordered them for a reason - but these were tailor-made for my punk vest. My favorites are the buttons I made that mashed up Revolutionary Girl Utena with the "God Save the Queen" Sex Pistols cover. They're even more fun in the final product.

I used Wacky Buttons' upload function to create my own buttons in various sizes. The following picture is just a small selection of the buttons I ordered.

The buttons actually turned out higher quality than I expected given the resolution of the print previews, which makes them an even better deal for the price. The buttons start at just 50 cents per 1" button, which makes for a great deal if you're able to design your own buttons.
